"Locals treasure the village atmosphere, and have diverse living options including cliff-top mansions, established family homes, high-rise apartments, townhouses, and beachfront properties."
Hello and welcome to this month's Perspectives. I’m Greg Dennerly, Managing Director of New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Auckland Eastern Bays.
Today, I’m going to give you some insight into the Auckland region and the Eastern Bays property market.
One third of New Zealanders live in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest city with a population of around 1.7 million people. Known as ‘The City of Sails’, people are drawn here for the climate, the commerce, the culture, the educational facilities, and the waterfront lifestyle.
Heading East from the city centre, 9 kilometers of golden beaches edge the Eastern Bays that include, Orakei, Mission Bay, Kohimarama, St Heliers and Glendowie. It is here that you can live your ultimate beach lifestyle, just a short distance from the City.
Locals treasure the village atmosphere, and have diverse living options including cliff-top mansions, established family homes, high-rise apartments, townhouses, and beachfront properties.
Auckland’s median sale price is currently $960,000 dollars, while the median sales price in the Eastern Bays is substantially higher, sitting at $1.62 million dollars.
A recent sale on the Kohimarama waterfront is 297 Tamaki Drive. Directly opposite the beach, with stunning views out to Rangitoto Island, this 1980’s 4 bedroom home sold for $3.7 million dollars.
Just listed, is 219a Tamaki Drive, a modern 3-bedroom apartment directly opposite the beach. One of only 3, it is on the ground floor, with the benefit of a secure enclosed garden.
If it’s a family home you are seeking, then take a look at 29A Hawera Road, Kohimarama. This eco-friendly home with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 2 large separate living areas, is the perfect home for families with teenagers, or extended family.
Finally, not in the Eastern Bays, but in another sought after waterfront location, is 5 Kotare Avenue, Westmere. This property is a boaties dream home with its own boat ramp and boatshed, only 15 minutes from the CBD. An extremely unique property, in one of Auckland’s most prestigious suburbs.
